Our Settlement Program, Newcomer Settlement Services, offers services and support for newcomers to Canada needing assistance with settling into their new country and community. We offer English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and coordinate volunteers to offer one-to-one or small group sessions and Conversation Circles for anyone wanting to improve their English and make new friends.
We offer direct one-on-one support with job searches, writing resumes and cover letters, and job interview preparation for anyone looking for employment or to further their career. We also offer regular workshops on a variety of job search and employment readiness tips. All services are free and available to anyone living in Portage la Prairie and the Central Plains region.
The Portage Work Experience Program is a program offered through the Portage Learning and Literacy Centre with funding provided by Employment and Social Development Canada. This is a 13-week youth employment program that provides work experience to assist individuals between the ages of 15 and 30 to overcome barriers to employment. Participants will develop a broad range of skills and knowledge in order to participate in the current and future labour market, with further education and skills being the key to labour market participation.
Through a partnership with SEED Winnipeg, Portage Learning and Literacy Centre has trained facilitators to offer a variety of Manage Your Money workshops to residents of Portage la Prairie and the Central Plains region.
